In the battle of Khromashahr at the beginning of the war between Iran and Iraq in 1979, a Swedish film group produced a documentary about the ongoing war and border dispute between Iran and Iraq. In the documentary, in the minutes 18:12, the cat (possibly a wild cat) scapes the battlefield. It seems it was just a quarter of a second, and the editor overlooked the brief encounter of a cat who escaped the battlefield.
The short film doesn’t speculate more than detecting the ir/relevant moment of the existence of the non-human within the brutality of war. A short story about the cat is a microhistorical moment that presents war’s effect beyond border disputes and claiming the land.
“A short story about a cat” is a short video clip from a Swedish television news archive. It is a short story about a cat who was caught on a battlefield during the war between Iran and Iraq (1980-1988). surrounded by fighting soldiers, a cat makes a desperate jump backward, trying to run as far as possible behind the front line.
